This is a guest blogger submission... same guest blogger that got attacked by a bird while trying to mow her lawn... enjoy!
The past few weeks have been more interesting than usual for me…. just over two weeks ago we sold our home in Lincoln and moved into a temporary apartment in Omaha. My original plan was to go through all of our stuff and set aside for storage, apartment, goodwill, or trash. Well, this worked for about one night. There was still over 2/3 of the house to be packed the day before we were to move and it just happened that night was also the Thursday night Husker game, therefore my husband was deemed completely useless and I knew I’d be running around the house like a madwoman.
On moving day, I had to be at our apartment by 10 am for the cable man, so I left my husband and his parents at the house to finish packing and loading the trailers while I rushed to the apartment with a carload myself. I soon realized after the cable man showed up a hour late that I was simply interrupting the installers smoke breaks by wanting him to actually hook up our services. I made three trips up and down from our 3rd floor apartment in the time it took him to go to his van and bring up the cable box.
When they finally got to the apartment it was about 12:30 pm and we had 2 stock trailers full to get unloaded. It also just happened that my husband’s best friend was getting married the next day, so he needed to leave to go and get his tux. It somehow took him two hours to get his tux and pick up lunch… which he brought us back Runza… really hon, you thought Runza sandwiches would be refreshing and appropriate for your 3rd floor moving crew???? The thought of a light deli sandwich instead did not cross your mind?? Anyway, I will end the moving saga with the fact my legs were shaking by the end of the day while I was hanging on the stair railing for dear life to try to get up to the 3rd freaking floor, I had no idea where anything was and what actually came with us vs. storage, and thank God for my in-laws! The stress that weekend was quite high, especially when my husband realized the next morning he hadn’t thought about his best man speech and closed himself in the spare bedroom 20 minutes before we needed to leave so he could ‘concentrate’.
One week after we moved in, I was heading to our new gym for my first time on a Saturday morning and pass 3 cop cars on a little bridge behind the back of our complex… huh. When I returned, the cars had moved to the field behind our apartment, where there is a small creek and railroad tracks, along with a fire truck and ambulance. After I parked, I saw my husband on our balcony with his binoculars, so I knew he was already on top of this. It turns out that we watch them carry a gurney up from the creek…. well that’s not exactly what I would like to see after being here for a week. During this I noticed an odd car parked in the complex watching the happenings as well, so being the dutiful citizen I am, I wrote down their plate number just in case. Fyi- It turned out the man walked in that area daily and no foul play was suspected.
This brings me to my last mentionable experience. The other night I was leaving work later than normal, and had just gotten into our work gym when I decided I’d instead walk out with another coworker leaving at that time and go to our new gym instead. When I got there, the parking lot was overflowing and I about went home, but decided to just go in since I’d made it this far already. I had just finished my workout on the elliptical and had 2 minutes of cool down left when I heard an ear-piercing scream behind me. I looked back for a second and saw a girl’s arms flailing around, then it registered and I turned around again for a better look. Yep, this girl was indeed naked except for a teeny-tiny thong. She proceeded to run around the cardio section, jumping up and down, shaking her thing, bending over, yelling ‘everyone’s looking at my butt’ while smacking it, and putting her stuff in guys faces… the two guys on the treadmill behind me could not have had redder faces after she decided to concentrate on them for a moment. The staff looked completely mortified as they tried to corral her, while everyone else stared at her in shock as they proceeded on their machines.
After she was taken away, the lady next to me and I just looked at each other for a moment. She then commented about how she wished she had not brought her 16 year old daughter with her tonight, while I was thinking at least that’s better than a 16 year old son!! When I left, I immediate called my husband. I’d only been to the gym 5 times and only the first time and this occurrence without him, so he was a bit upset he hadn’t gone with me that night. To answer all the questions he asked and a few more… she was prob 22ish, was in decent shape, did not look mentally instable but definitely was on something, she tanned and had a tattoo on her right shoulder blade…
